Katie Russell Tapestry Weaver

I have always been inspired by the tactile aspect of tapestry weaving. My hands are constantly touching the yarn and this both guides and inspires when I work. I use a lot of natural fibres in my work, such as wool, cotton, jute, linen and silk. My weavings are nearly always inspired by historical themes. I love research into aspects of war, architecture, maritime history and the natural world. Mixing contemporary images with traditional and historical craft techniques is something that I am very passionate about. I love blending colours of yarns to achieve a range of visual elements. I am passionate about keeping this traditional craft alive. For me tapestry weaving is a journey, or even a voyage. You don't always know where it is going to take you.......
